How to find the best beard style for your face shape

In Beard Care, Beard Styles, Trimming tips

The first thing you need to do when starting to grow your beard is to choose a beard style that will fit your overall physical appearance. This can be hard at times as there are too many things to consider like:

  • Patchy beard
  • Thin beard
  • Beard color
  • Face shape

You can decide to grow over your patches or trim them down completely, with the beard surrounding them if it’s possible, but what about the fit of your newly chosen beard style?

The shape of your face will narrow the list of beard styles you can choose from more than anything else, yet there’s one basic principle to keep in mind:

Your BEARD and your JAWLINE need to collaborate!

It’s important to know the bone structure of your face, so you learn where to trim down and where to grow more when trying to shape up your beard the best way possible.

For people with square and round jaws we suggest you keep your beard growing till it covers your Adam’s apple till some extent and then trim it down from the sides and on the bottom, so you can achieve that square elongated beard shape.

But how to know what’s your face shape?

How to determine your face shape?

It’s relatively easy. You just need a measuring tape and couple of minutes of your free time. When you get these two just follow these simple instructions and measure your:

1. Forehead: Starting from the point of your eyebrow closest to your ear and going to the opposite side.
2. Cheekbones: Start from the widest point of your face just bellow the outside corner of your eye.
3. Jawline: Determine the middle of your face and start from the tip of your chine up to the point where your jaw bends towards the ear, then double up on that number as you have two sides of your face.
4. Face length: Pretty straightforward, just measure the length of your face from the center of your hairline (or where it once was) to the tip of your chin.

Now write down these numbers and find the best beard style you can pick for your face shape bellow:
