What Is A Pencil Mustache

The Pencil Mustache style is a style most associated with the lady killers out there. Ok maybe not so much today as it would be associated 50 years ago, but nevertheless. It looks like a thin drawing on your upper lip, hence the name origin. It consists of a very short in length, very thin line above your upper lip with maximum space left from your nose. I like it better when the line breaks in the center (at the philtrum) but people are wearing it unbroken also. It’s an interesting style that does not suit everyone, but if you’re the Casanova type then go for it.

Who Can Pull It Off?

The Pencil mustache can accommodate almost every face type out-there but I would suggest it most to the gentlemen. It gives out an elegant appearance so the lifestyle should match the mustache style. I would say that diamond, oval, and round faces would benefit more from this particular mustache style. The two lines descending above the mouth can emphasize your face and add some vertical direction, making it appear longer.

TIPS & TRICKS

A thicker mustache is wanted to achieve the maximum effect although the fairer haired men can pull it off if they have darker hair color. If not, there’s always the hair coloring solution. The patchy type men can grow their mustache for a longer period of time to make it look thicker. There are few tricks that make your beard thicker and you can find them in the links below. But the most important tip is that maintenance is the key to preserving the perfect pencil mustache style.

On average a man with a moustache touches it 760 times a day.

How To Pencil Mustache Guide:

Shaping and Trimming Your Pencil Mustache

2 weeks of growth will be sufficient to start stylizing your pencil mustache.  For the fair-haired men, I would suggest a month of growth to get a denser look.  The main tools that you will need are a trimmer and a razor if your trimmer doesn’t have an edge function.

Step 1

Trimm your mustache to about 3mm.

Step 2

With the trimmer shave down contours downwards from the nose. Use the base as a reference point for a straight line.

Step 3

Make sure the upper edge of your mustache is also nice and clean.

Step 4

When you are all done stylizing the pencil mustache, you should shave the remaining facial hair on your neck, cheeks, and chin. Be careful around the mustache.

Maintaining Your Horseshoe Mustache

Keep in mind that this mustache style requires regular maintenance. You should shave the neck, chin, and cheeks every few days to keep it clean. Also, don’t forget the regular oils and balms treatment.
