I can’t remember the exact reason why I’ve personally started growing a beard, but I can assure you it wasn’t because it’s the current trend. There’s something special about wearing a beard and I can most certainly confirm that.
Some of the reasons why I decided to grow a serious and respectable beard is probably because I like the feel of the long soft hair I got on my face and I hate the itch of a one week old 5 o’clock shadow even more.

Legit reason. Almost every kid imagines himself with a beard or at least a stache. It’s just who we are. When we’re little we want to look older and vice versa. If you’re a nineties kid like myself I clearly doubt you had bearded childhood heroes and role models, but just imagine who does today’s youth look up to and you’ll notice how a David Beckham becomes a bearded Messi. Things are changing, and the way kids imagine themselves in the future will change its form as well.

Tell that to my friend who has two pieces of hair under his chin. He’ll defy this statement. Beard? That’s simply who I am
And continue being sir! Although I think there’s no generic personality that follows bearded people… We’ve probably seen too many jolly fat bearded men during our days, and the image of a happy Santa will always be engraved in our minds. It really just depends from the style you’ll choose and your overall physical appearance. Don’t tell me a chinstrap can look serious in any situation.
I wanted to look older
This one has an expiration date written all over it. Till when will you want to look older? Although some men need something to stir them away from the reputation of a mannish boy. This can be a risky move, Ed Sheeran is proof of that.
I wanted to look more distinguished
What’s up with everyone and their looks. Yes there has been data, how people perceive bearded men like more serious, older and distinguished versions of themselves, yet this shouldn’t be your main motivation when thinking about a beard.
It is something that women cannot do
The prehistoric man surely thought so, his beard kept him warm and protected him from various outside influences, that’s probably the main reason. At some periods your beard was a sign of respect in the community and a sign of high statue. Just ask the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks. There as interesting anecdote that tells how Alexander The Great forbid beards in his army because he was worried how ennemies will take advantage of this and pull his soldiers closer. Don’t be that prehistoric dude, and start growing a beard simply because you like the style.
